Radical Generosity
Speaker: Michael Swearingen
Main Text: Acts 2:42-47
Description: The early church in Acts 2 lived with a kind of generosity that can feel radically different from the world around us. They shared what they had, cared for people in need, opened their homes, shared meals, and gave freely. But this kind of generosity was not really about money. It was about following Jesus and refusing to let comfort, possessions, or convenience become more important than God’s calling. Jesus teaches that we cannot serve both God and money, because what we treasure reveals what rules our hearts.
Generosity is a spiritual journey, not simply a financial transaction. Scripture invites us to trust God with every area of our lives, including our finances, and to see giving as something God wants for us rather than something He wants from us. Whether someone is just beginning to give, developing generosity as a rhythm, practicing the biblical pattern of tithing, or learning to give beyond the tithe, the goal is a heart that trusts God more than money. The early church discovered that radical generosity did not cost them the good life. It helped them discover a better one.
