Colossians 2

Speaker: Michael Swearingen

Main Text: Acts 2:42-47

Description: The world is constantly offering upgrades: more success, more comfort, more control, and more ways to improve ourselves. But in Colossians 2, Paul reminds the church that Jesus offers something far greater than an upgrade. He offers new life. The church in Colossae was facing pressure to add other spiritual beliefs and religious rules to their faith, as if Jesus alone wasn’t enough. Paul points them back to the truth that all the fullness of God lives in Christ, and through our relationship with Him, we are already complete. We don’t need to chase what the world promises or try to earn what Jesus has freely given.

This message also explores what it means to say yes to Jesus. Following Him isn't about improving the old version of ourselves; it's about becoming new. Through His death and resurrection, Jesus makes new life possible, and baptism is a picture of the old life being buried and a new life beginning. We say yes to that gift by believing in Jesus, turning away from sin, declaring Him as Lord, and being baptized. These aren't steps we take to earn God's love or forgiveness. Jesus has already paid it all. They're a response to the new life He offers. If you're exploring faith, considering baptism, or looking for a Christian church in Sarasota, this message is an invitation to stop settling for the world's upgrades and experience the new life only Jesus can give.
