Guest Speaker: A Way With Words
Speaker: Eddie Lowen
Main Text: James 3:3-12
Description:
In this sermon, we explore the incredible power of words and the impact they have on our lives and the lives of those around us. From the 850 million words an average person speaks in a lifetime to the small, everyday choices in conversation, we see that words can build up or tear down, encourage or wound, bless or curse.
Drawing on James 3:9 and Matthew 12:36, we’re reminded that the same mouth we use to praise God can also be used to harm others — and that God holds us accountable for the words we speak. Through stories, humor, and personal experiences, this message challenges us to examine how we communicate in our families, communities, workplaces, and online.
The sermon includes three practical ways to redeem our words:
Become known for encouraging words – Speak life, build people up, and reflect God’s heart in everyday interactions.
Become known for grateful words – Practice daily gratitude, blessing God and others by intentionally focusing on what is good.
Become known for fewer words – Recognize that less can be more, and that wisdom often comes from listening, pausing, and speaking only what is good and helpful.
